“I’ll Look After You” by meadow-rue
FACT: Baby Talia is the cutest thing in the entire world.
One reason I particularly like this picture is that, while I have climbed happily aboard the Nolanverse Talia/Bane ship, it explores their relationship as something that is not romantic. Here, we see their association as platonic, perhaps even paternal/filial. While Bane’s mask is fearsome, here it is not an object of terror, but rather a simple element of his appearance. His eyes appear sad as he looks at her, but Talia’s little smile and the way she lightly touches his mask show that she doesn’t see anything wrong with him at all; he’s still the man who always took care of her in the Pit. He’s still her beloved friend, and nothing can change that.
Being platonic or filial doesn’t at all lessen the love between the two characters in the Nolanverse. It’s quite silly (and even demeaning) to require that all loving relationships include a romantic/sexual component. This picture does a great job at reminding us of that fact.
Great linework here, in my opinion. It’s a lovely mix of minimalism and occasional detailed touches (like the accuracy of his mask). For some reason, my favorite thing about it is baby Talia’s ragged hair. I don’t even know why. Maybe it’s because it’s so similar to her shawl, or because the rest of the picture is so smooth, and then we have this shock of spiky, fluffy hair. No idea. But I love it.
